1965 A history in pictures 2

Quobba01

Kevin Donovan is in the foreground. He was a teacher and the others worked in banks. The trip north of Carnarvon was to go fishing at Quobba.

Quobba02

You would not want to be there when the sea was rough.

Look a third of the way up from the bottom and a third of the way from the left. You will identify two of the party from their white shirts.

I took photos. I still cannot remember if any fish were caught.

Photos of Yarloop, Western Australia

Yarloop was destroyed by fire in early January, 2016. I lived there from 1950 to 1967 and took 35mm photos from 1961 to 1967.
Yarloop owed its existence to being a timber mill town. The Mill closed years ago but was operating while I lived there. These photos were taken in the early 1960s.

Jim Miller on the beach in Carnarvon. We had both been members of the Western Australian Photography Club and I was given his contact details before leaving Perth. Jim was a policeman. His wife was Betty and his two kids were Jamie and Jane.

I went with JIm to the farm of his friend Vinka several times. Vinka had a son, Marco, and a daughter. His wife's cooking was an advantage of being there at lunchtime.

Photos of tree felling for Yarloop Timber Mill

Yarloop was destroyed by fire in early January, 2016. I lived there from 1950 to 1967 and took 35mm photos from 1961 to 1967.
Yarloop owed its existence to being a timber mill town. The Mill closed years ago but was operating while I lived there. These photos were taken in the early 1960s.
For the photos of the tree felling I accompanied the tree fellers to work one day to get the photos of them in action. The Jarrah forest to the east of Yarloop was where the tree fellers demonstrated their skill in felling the trees for the train to take to the mill where they were sawn up.
These photos were taken fifty years ago when I accompanied the fellers for a day. Unfortunately I have forgotten their names.
